Window glass is arguably the most important component of every window ever made. In terms of energy efficiency, the right kind of window glass can make or break your windows’s long-term performance and energy efficiency. At Renewal by Andersen®, we know this well, which is why we developed our own glass packages to ensure that our clients get consistently energy efficient replacement windows every time.
Glass is naturally conductive, which means that if a window only has a single layer of glass installed, it would easily allow thermal transfer. This results in heat loss during winter and heat gain during summer. As a consequence, your indoor heating and cooling requirements would increase, which means higher energy bills. Insulating window glass requires a different approach, as modern insulating materials aren’t suitable for use on glass.
Dual-panel glass is by far the most effective way to provide insulation to window glass. The gap between two glass panels eliminates contact between interior and exterior surfaces, minimizing heat conduction. This allows additional enhancements to be put in place. The airspace can be filled with an inert gas like argon for better insulation, while layers of low-emissivity (Low-E) coatings help block harmful UV and infrared rays. Whether you choose casement or gliding windows, you can expect consistent performance all throughout.
Renewal by Andersen Glass Packages
We offer three energy-efficient glass packages for our replacement windows:
High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass – Our standard glass package features up to 47% better energy efficiency in the winter and 56% in the summer compared to ordinary dual-pane glass. The Low-E4 coatings also feature metal oxide coatings on the exterior surface, which reduces water spotting when activated by sunlight.
High-Performance Low-E4 SmartSun™ glass – Our most energy-efficient option features 49% better energy efficiency in the winter, 70% in the summer and blocks up to 95% of harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. With this option, you can enjoy the benefits of daylighting without worrying about its effects on your fabrics and furniture.
High-Performance Low-E4 Sun glass – Our Sun glass features our lowest Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) rating, perfect for keeping your home cool and comfortable even when it’s blazing hot outside.
